This article mainly draws on the reports and comments on Asian countries published in China Student Weekly from the 1950s to 1970s, focusing on how the Chinese society understood important events in Asia. My paper specifically relies on China Student Weekly articles which reported on the overseas Chinese education in Southeast Asia, the Vietnam War, and the Baodiao Movement, in an attempt to analyze how this newspaper discussed Asian issues at that time. It is evident that China Student Weekly reported the above three events with an emphasis on the interests of Taiwan (Republic of China), forming a peculiar ''Asian vision.'' In particular, China Student Weekly did not support the national interests of the sponsoring country, that is, the United States, but rather affirmed the political rights of the Republic of China. |
