In order to secure the amount of listening practice for beginning level of learners studying JAPANESE at a university, the authors have developed self-study listening materials. In this paper, the authors first describe the self-study listening program for university’s freshmen and the concept of the listening materials adopted natural spoken language and contact situation, and then analyze transcription in terms of the above concept. Secondly, the authors did formative evaluation of this program and the materials by questionnaires and interviews for the learners used this program. The results of investigations tell us that this program got some positive evaluations: 70% of learners used this programs at home, and 80% felt useful. However there are problems that the materials need some modifications on the level adjustment and topic selection, and also, the programs are required the improvement such as providing supports for the learners to continue self-study and incorporation with other activity. |
