The woman writer Tamura Toshiko who had been improperly treated as a writer until feminism study and gender study revalued her as a feminist writer in 1980s. However, Tamura's stereotyped pictue--a lonely woman wondered in floating world--was constructed through Setouchi Harumi's biographical novel Tamura Toshiko, which was published in 1961 and won the first Tamura Toshiko Prize. Not only re-constructed Tamura's picture, This paper also reexamines both how the feminism studies influenced on the study on Tamura Toshiko and how the scholars in Japanese woman literature try to shed light on Tamura Toshiko as a feminist. |
