The collection of short stories "After the Quake" was published after the 1995 Han-Shin Awaji Earthquake Disaster. It has received a variety of evaluations, e.g., whether it is associated with the earthquake disaster as well as Sarin Incident (Tokyo Attack) occurred afterwards or not. In addition to comprehending the whole structure of the collection of short stories with "suggesting that the existence of AUM and Subway Sarin Incident" etc.based on the consideration of the association with Han-Shin Awaji Earthquake Disaster and Sarin Incident, Norihiro Kato found another topic which is fundamentally common among each short story of "After the Quake" as the common of "Relationships with parents as characters, particularly focusing on the relationship with the father to show a new topic of genealogy. Furthermore, apropos Jo Haruki Murakami's works depicting "the relationship with parents" most clearly are "Landscape with Flatiron" and "Thailand". The former is Junko's unpleasant memory with her father, while the latter is showing the trauma of Satsuki toward the character who is equivalent to her father" as not expressing clearly. In view of regarding the unpleasantness and trauma as a kind of violence, the study focused on social problems appealing in various works based on the consideration of the violence and its expression way, corresponding of main characters and so on. |
