在現代與傳統、城市與偏鄉的二元對比中，王湘琦的小說〈沒卵頭家〉描寫偏鄉村民的一場神秘怪病，這個疾病導致村民的身體產生變異，村民依過往的風俗習慣，選擇以巫醫療法來面對困難。然而城鄉的差異與知識權力的不平等，囿限了村民的思維與行徑。尤其在醫病間相對弱勢的患者角度裡，主人翁吳金水病體治癒後，留下的卻是內心無法填補的缺憾，揭示出象徵體制下傳統價值觀的傳承與影響，這樣的深層心態實有待深入的關注與探討。因此本文擬從偏鄉病人的身體變異出發，剖析鄉民面對疾病的心理與行為，現代醫學與知識介入後的差異碰撞，以及主人翁選擇「殘身」導致心靈匱缺的補償推力，最後藉由小說結尾的光明導向，提出一個敘事治療的詮釋途徑。
