After ex-president of Honduras Manuel Zelaya was ousted on June 28, 2009, the president of Congress Roberto Micheletti was sworn in as country's interim President. It became the first Central America's coup in the 21st Century Coup. There are two main reasons led to the event. First, there is a big gap between procedural democracy and substantial democracy. Second, there is no consensus between constitutionalsystem and electoral system. Three impacts of Honduras coup are: increasing possibility of democratic reverse wave in Latin America, deepening confrontation between US Republic and Democratic parties, and transforming as toxic asset for Obama's policy toward Latin America. |
