The new college admission policy of Taiwan will be implemented in 2022. The high school learning portfolio in the new policy highlights not only the importance of academic achievement, but also multiple high school learning performance and motivation for major choice. This study contributed to be the policy reference for the preliminary exploration in the beginning of the new policy. The target population was the freshmen students at a four-year university. The study used questionnaire survey and quantitative analysis, controlling personal background and student college satisfaction, to understanding college student engagement from high school achievement and motivation for major choice. The study found that there were significant differences from students of different academic college on high school learning achievement, motivation for major choice, and college student satisfaction. In addition, the hierarchical regression analysis showed that the high school rank, the factor of college environment and intrinsic motivation had significant influence on college student engagement. Practical suggestions were provided for the educational administrators and college administrators for following policy implementation. Suggestions for future studies were also provided. |
