Off-Label Use of Levamisole in Recurrent Aphthous Ulcers: a Case Report

Levamisole本是驅蟲藥,卻可用於治療復發性口腔潰瘍。一名78歲女性受口腔潰瘍反覆發作的困擾已數週,至本院耳鼻喉科尋求協助;醫師開立Levamisole讓病患服用後使其疼痛得到緩解。
針對此類少見的藥品仿單標示外使用,藥劑科會納入疑義處方會議討論以達成共識。藥師若發到此藥除了向醫師確認實際用法外,也應向病患解釋非如藥袋上適應症所示的作為驅蟲藥以免造成病患恐慌。

Levamisole, an anthelmintic agent, can be used in the treatment of recurrent aphthous ulcers (RAUs). A 78-year-old woman suffered from RAUs for several weeks and sought medical care in the department of otolaryngology. The doctor prescribed levamisole to relieve her pain.
A rare prescription such as this off-label use can be discussed in the phar-macy department to reach a consensus. Pharmacists should confirm the actual usage with doctors and explain to patients that levamisole is not an anthelmintic to prevent panic attacks
