The purpose of this study is to examine the difference of money education from parents between high school students with different individual and family background. By using survey method and purposive sampling, a total of 664 high school students in Taipei city were obtained. The results showed that high school students feel parents seldom do money education in family. High school students perceived more money education from their mother than their father. Parents discussed more financial issues with their children in higher family socioeconomic status. Mothers with lower level of education tended to use money as reward or punishment while parenting. According to the findings of this study, it is recommended that father should realize the important role in teaching children about financial literacy. Parents from lower family socioeconomic status should learn more about financial information, and discuss related issue of money with children. Moreover, mother with lower level of education should not use money as a tool in parenting. Related educational institutes may develop courses or programs regarding basic family financial management or how parents teach children about the concept of money, in order to establish basic financial education in family. |
