This study at tempted to develop a vocabulary test for loanwords, aiming to measure Japanese language learners' vocabulary competence in a convenient and accurate way. The vocabulary test for loanwords designed by this study contains 36 items based on the structure composed of 3 perspectives: difficulty level, frequency of use, and part -of-speech. The research subjects of the vocabulary test designed by this study are 335 Japanese language learners in Taiwan. The data from the test were analyzed. According to the analysis result, the vocabulary test was highly reliability. The items of this test were not only of appropriate difficulty level but also of very high discriminating power. The options were also properly designed. In addition, this study proved through t -test that the vocabulary test could positively identify Japanese language learners' differences in vocabulary competence of loanwords during their learning period. Based on the analysis results mentioned above, the reliability and validity of the vocabulary test for loanwords developed by this study were both high. The test was also discriminatory in terms of Japanese language learners' familiarity with loanwords. In the future, this vocabulary test can be used by Japanese teachers in Taiwan as a tool to measure Japanese language learners' proficiency in loanwords. |
