The purpose of Simultaneous Multilingual & Multicultural Learning Course (SMMLC) is to contribute to constructing global communication especially in East Asia. Ten Taiwanese students, seven Japanese and five Korean international students participated in this course. English was spoken as a media language. 50 minute Chinese, Japanese, Korean and intercultural communication classes were held Monday through Thursday every week. The facilitators explained what to do at the beginning of the class and then student -oriented class activities were carried out. This qualitative study is based on the participants' interview given at the end of SMMLC. The results show that SMMLC helped the participants understand cross-cultural differences and mother language and culture, how to build relationship among them, acquire multi lingual knowledge and make progresses in class, and how high their potentiality of out -of-class development is. It was also found through the questionnaire that the participants were satisfied to have taken SMMLC. |
