The aim of this paper is to discuss the usage of conditionals and “-temo'' sentences in the cases of which consequents are the same evaluation. It is divided into two types. (1) Positive evaluation (“ii/yokatta''): in this type, “-temo'' sentences show compromise or understanding or pity more than conditionals. (2) Negative evaluation (“yokunai/ikenai/mazui''): in this type, “-temo'' sentences are used in the text where has another conditional having the opposite antecedent. And how “mo'' makes sentences “yawarage'' is also discussed. Sentences of “-temo+positive evaluation'' express permission or concession in the occations of advice and suggestion, and another “tasha'' can be found in the text in the occations of dissatisfaction and regret. In the cases of “-temo+negative evaluation,'' another “tasha'' having the opposite antecedent can be found in the text. |
