The Beijing Aizhixing (Love-Know-Act) Institute and its predecessor the Beijing AIZHI Action Project will celebrate their 20th anniversary in 2014. This article introduces the background of the founder of Aizhixing. Aizhixing defends LGBT rights in China and was launched after the discovery of people infected by HIV/AIDS through contaminated blood in Henan, China. The article briefly introduces Aizhixing's work for health and rigts of marginalized people, including sex workers, drug addicts and Uighur people. The author discussed how the Institute copes with pressure from government, and also shares its difficult relationship with charitable foundations. Finally, the author describes how Aizhixing will continue its work in the current political environment. |
