This paper considers the meaning and usage of Japanese adjective ’ku-form’ systematically. The objects are the collocation of an adjective and a verb. And, the adjectives of this research express dimension (''ookii, chisai, naga, mizikai, takai, hikui, hiroi, semai, atsui, usui, fukai, asai, futoi, hosoi''), distance(''tooi, chikai'') and power (''tsuyoi, yowai''). The consideration tools are BCCWJ and NINJAL-LWP for BCCWJ. The usage of ’renyo’modification of an adjective differs from the predicate usage, and also differs from the usage of ’rentai’ modification. When it coincides with the same verb, the frequency in use of a quantity grade adjective and a low grade adjective is also different. Some adjective ’ku-form’ not only carried out the semantic change, but have converted into the adverb from the adjective. In instruction in Japanese language education, and the meaning postulate in a dictionary, it should be shown as an adverb. |
