This paper describes the meaning of ”surukoto ga aru” in modern Japanese. The viewpoint of this paper is the characteristic of agent and the existence of experience or precedent. The conclusions are as follows.(1) The agents of the actions expressed by ”surukoto ga aru” that means [repetition] and [possibility] are not only general agent, but also individaul agents.(2) The meaning of ”surukoto ga aru” which expresses [possibility] can be classified as [qualitative possibility], [event accurrence possibility], [imaginary possibility] with the standard for the existence of experience or precedent, and the focus of description. Therefore, the factor influences the meaning of ”surukoto ga aru” is not the characteristic of agent, but the existence of experience or precedent.(3) The meaning of ”surukoto ga aru” which expresses [qualitative possibility] is different from the one that potential sentances means, and it means a kind of possibility which is not so absolute. |
