”Taiwanbungei” was one of the literary magazines, which was edited by Tamakichi Murakami and released in April, 1902. It was not a specialized magazine but a comprehensive one that included novels, literary criticisms and so on.However, according to its composition, it contained many haiku, essays composed by haiku poets and the introductions to haiku gatherings etc. Moreover, it was the first literary magazine bearing the word ”Taiwan” during Japanese colonial period. It revealed the historical significance with the aim of enhancing the local literature.At first this study introduces the publication background and the literary objectives of ”Taiwanbungei”. Then the tendency will be clarified through the analysis of contents. Meanwhile, it shows the characteristics of the haiku collected in the magazine and Taiwan elements among the interpretation on the poetry composed on a set theme. It also discusses its influence on the Taiwanese haiku circle. |
