The narrators in ”Heart” of Soseki are ”the teacher” and ”I”, so we might easily see the viewpoints of these two, but not those of Sizu, who is a crucial role of significance in this novel. Even though we do get a picture of Sizu through the narrators' eyes, her heart is regrettably denied. In the past, most researches on ”Heart” focused on the heroes. Not until recently have researches on Sizu been published on account of the influence of feminist literary criticism. Still, the number is scarce. Therefore in this essay, Sizu's image and her inside world will be further investigated. The results of these investigations will hopefully be the possible inner voices of Sizu.Through the analyses, let's listen to Suzi, unable to speak directly to readers, hear her voice, and shape her figure and heart, which wouldn't have otherwise been heard or seen. |
