The Little House wrote by Kyoko Nakajima (Bungeishunju extra, No. 278-285, Nov., 2008~Jan., 2010) is the Naoki prize-winning work, which mostly described maid Taki's memory of Tokyo before the War. The thesis is designed to discuss 2 questions of the work. First, the relatives and publishing house would like to have Taki to describe the whole circumstance after the War, however, she chose the memory before the War instead. Why she made this difference? Second, Takeshi, the nephew of Taki, doubted about the description of Tokyo before the War in this memoirs, but he shifted the investigation to the situation of people in the memoirs after the War after Taki passed away. We would like to discuss the reason of Takeshi's changes. This thesis will explain how The Little House reinforce the image of Tokyo before the War through analysis of setting of Taki's well-paying job. Then, we will further explain the contrary between Tokyo city and suburbs before and after the War in this work by analyzing the reason that Takeshi decided not to disclosure the investigation result. In summary, the work of The Little House revealed the isolation of Japan's memory before the War via the aspect from maid Taki. |
