The article discusses the subject of genitourinary disorders in the classical meridian theory. By situating the theoretical trajectory of ''liver meridian of foot-jueyin'' and the related debates which were documented in literatures including Zu Bi Shi Yi Mai Jiu Jing, Yin Yang Shi Yi Mai Jiu Jing, and Miraculous Pivot, I argue that the editor/author of Miraculous Pivot aims to take the ''liver meridian of foot-jueyin'' as the focal point for the diagnose of genitourinary disorders by adding in a footnote. In which, the editor/author indicates ''It runs further upward to the medial side of the knee and along the medial aspect of the thigh to the pubic hair region, where it curves around the external genitalia.'' By doing so, the editor/ author of Miraculous Pivot also positions the ''liver meridian of foot-jueyin'' as the critical muscle region for interpreting the pathogenesis and identifying the acupuncture points during the treatment. Moreover, the author/editor further elaborated the concept of the collateral of the Liver Meridian of Foot-Jueyin in the chapter about meridian and the idea of the collateral of the Liver Meridian of Foot-Jueyin in the chapter about muscle region. The former refers to ''a branch runs up the leg to the genitals'' and the later refers to how the Liver Meridian of FootJueyin connect''to the genital region.'' By developing the collateral of the Liver Meridian of Foot-Jueyin in tandem with the muscle region of foot jueyin, the author/editor further solidifies the critical role of the Liver Meridian of Foot-Jueyin in the genitourinary disorders. |
