A sanitary environment in hospitals is crucial to care quality and safety, especially inoperating rooms. Various criteria are used to evaluate cleanliness, and such evaluation is thusdifficult. The reasons for poor cleanliness are no standard procedure, no auditing mechanism,unsuitable or insufficient use of janitorial supplies, lack of an infection control concept, andmachines in operating rooms not being moved, which causes cleaning difficulties. The strategiesfor improving cleanliness in operating rooms include the establishment of a standard procedureand checklist, use of an auditing system, use of color management for dusters, coincidence andclear marking of the work trolley, legend signage for bleach dilution in water, on-the-job trainingand education, written examinations, and illustrations of machine collection. After team resourcemanagement implemented these strategies, cleanliness in operating rooms was improved from71.3% to 86.7%. Therefore, the quality of environmental hygiene in operating rooms can beeffectively maintained through development of cleaning standards and efficient tool managementenabled by teamwork. |
