1007 During 1969-1970, an experiment was conducted for examining the response of 6 varieties of Taiwan radish and 2 varieties of Japanese radish (Minowase and 20-day radish) to seed vernalization. The sensitivity to low temperature on percentage or days of showing visible flower buds and flowering in 8 varieties were in the following order: Dong gau bai(The symbol is abbreviated)Ma eel yu>Taur yaun gan tzy(The symbol is abbreviated)Dah bai yu>Wu feng tzao sheng>Dah mei hua(The symbol is abbreviated)Minowase>20-day radish. Varieties of Dong gau bai, Ma eel yu, Taur yaun gan tzy. Dah yu exposed to 5℃ for 2 weeks were completely vernalized. However, other varieties such as: Wu feng tzao sheng, Dah mei hua, Minowase, 20-day radish exposed for 3 weeks were completely vernalized. The longer the period of 5℃ treatment, the earlier and more uniform the bolting, showing visible flower buds and flowering. In this experiment the most efficient treatment for seed vernalization of radish varieties was 5℃ for 3 weeks. |
