The effect of thiamine on the growth of mushroom mycelium has been studied. A pure culture of mushroom mycelium was transfered from the tissue on corn-agar medium to the synthetic medium which comtained 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5ppm. of thiamine and the cultures were incubated under 25°C. for two weeks. Observations were made on the growing area of mycelium during the period of incubation, and the diameter, colour and dry weight of the mycelium at the end of incubation. Mushroom mycelium was found to grow satisfactory in the synthetic medium and to be unaffected by addition of thiamine, so far as the results of exteral measurements are concerned, but the dry weight of unit area (mg./mm2.) of thiamine treated samples at the end of incubating were found much greater than the untreated samples. |
