This experiment was conducted in the experimental station of Horticultural Department, Taiw ·an Provincial Chung Hsing University, Taichung, Taiwan, China in 1966. In order to study the percentage of successful grafting of four kinds of stocks with the scion of Winter Banana of apple (Matus Pumila Mill.) and compare their resulting growth. The stocks used were: (1) Malus formosana Kawak. et Kaidz. , (2) Matus pumila Mill. , (3). Malus Seiboldii Rehd. and (4) Matus prunifolia Willd. It is hoped that this information may serve to apple culture on this island. Results obtained in the first year are summarized as follows: (1) The percentage of successful grafting were differently for all four stocks: 94% for M. puinila, 92% for M. prunifolia, 50% for M. Seiboldii and 18% M. f ormosana. (2) The growth of grafted plants were very differently for all four stocks. M pumila and M. prunifolia stocks had the largest growth among them, the defference were highly significant statistically. No difference were found between those for M. Seiboldii and M. formosana stocks. This experiment is still going on at present. |
