The Sunki (C. reticulata var. Sunki (Hayata) Toung) has been commonly used as a citrus rootstock in Taiwan for several hundred years. Since the rapid decline of the citrus . was found in the most citrus grow mg area m Taiwan during the past twenty years, it has been generally considered that such a decline would be, directly or indirectly, associated with the rootstock. It, therefore, becomes necessary that the Sunki rootstock should be reevaluated and a suitable substitute should be recommended for use. For this recognition, a well-designed citrus rootstock trial has been carried out for four years, from 1963 to present, at the Shihlin Horticultural Experiment Station, Taipei, Taiwan, China. The preliminary results are summarized as follow: (1) The Tankan on the rough Iemen rootstock grew rapidly and strongly, though the union point showed insufficient conginiality as the present measurament concerned. (2) The Tankan on the rough lemon, Canton lemon and rangpurhme rootstock increased in size much more rapidly than on the Cleopatra and Hassaku rootstock. |
