Embryonic Type and Variety Improvement on Mango (Mangifera indica L.)

檬果多胚性是由珠心胚細胞演變而來，在遺傳學上此特性可能是由一對隱性因子所控制。珠心茵的基因型與母本相同。檬果樹花穗多，每穗花序的花朵更多，但結果率卻很低，因此雜交育種工作倍增困難。利用外國單胚型品種與本地多胚型品種混植，任其自然雜交授粉，再從單胚型品種的種子進行後裔選種，為改進本省檬果品種與品質的最佳途徑。

Polyembryony of mango is initiated from nucellar cells. From genetic Points of view, the polyembryonic characteristic of mango is probably controlled by a single pair of recessive gene. Thus the nucellar seedling is the same genotype as maternal plant. It is difficult to improve mango variety by crossing since there are so many small flowers with low fertility in inflorescence. To mix planting the foreign monoembryonic cultivars in orchard of Taiwan native polyembryonic variety for open pollination and then, selection seeds from monoembryonic cultivars may be the choice way in improving Taiwan native mango variety.
