Effect of growing medium, slow release fertilizer and manure on growth of Asplenium nidus grown at shade house were studies. The peat-lite mixes or peat/perlite/treefern mixes were better than the peat-lite mix containing 1/4 (by volume) sawdust and 1/4 ricehull for frond growth. Growth of frond was enhanced by medium (composed equal part of peatmose, perlite and treefern) enriched with 2g/l Osmocote (14N-6.1P-11.6K) or 1/20 volume of dairy or hog manure. However, the growth of frond was inhibited when medium enriched with chicken manure. There are not significantly difference between control and medium enriched with earthworm casting. It seems likely that air capacity and nutrient holding capacity are the main factors controlling the frond growth of Asplenium nidus. |
