Copper is a component of several plant oxidases and certain other proteins. It is essential for plant growth. In the main citrus growing area in Taiwan, the Cu concentration of leaves collected from tankan orchard in Yilan county was low, and that from Valencia orchard in Taitung county was in the suitable range and leaf Cu concentration of ponkan orchard in Miaoli county liu-cheng orchard in Chiayi county were high. A positive correlation was found between the pH value of the soil and Cu concentration in leaves. From fruit juice quality related to the concentration of leaf Cu, the more leaf Cu concentration the total soluble solids was variable, citric acid content was decreased, the ratio of soluble solids and acid was incneased. Under the high range leaf Cu in ponkan and liu-cheng orchard the more leaf Cu concentration the lesser the ascorbic acid contained. |
