The major purpose of this study was to inquire visitors' attitudes toward the functions of facilities for rest in Shih-tou San area. An attitude measurement scale was developed to measure the variables of interest, 274 visitors to Shih-tou Sa area were served as respondents. Their responses to the scale were subjected to the procedure of principle component factor analysis, the technique of scree test was used to determine the number of factors, and a four-factor solution to our problem was obtained. The four factors are: Factor 1: Negative attitude toward the functions of facilities for rest. Factor 2: Positive attitude toward the functions of facilities for rest. Factor 3: Attitude of symbolic identification toward the functions of facilities. Factor 4: Negative attitude toward the security for walking. The meaning of the four factors were explained separately. The contents of those items, which have a relative high factor loading on any of the four factors, were also discussed. The results of current research may give some suggestions for further planning of the Shih-tou San scenery area, and the methodology used in this research can be used as a model of interdisciplinary approach for designing and planning similar scenery areas, which have the characteristics between that of user-oriented and resource-based recreational areas in Taiwan. |
