Curcuma longa rhizomes contained a golden yellow odoriferous essential oil and an orange-yellow pigment. The purpose of this experiment is to extract and determine the content of curcumin yellow in tumeric which were introduced from India, Indonesia and Thailand respectively. Curcumin was extracted respectively with ether, acetone and bezene, and was determinated quantitatively by ultraviolet spectra in comparison with authentic samples. The contents of curcumin in tumeric were dependent on varieties, cultural environment and farm management. The variety from Indonesia contained a higher curcumin than that of India and Thailand. |
