The rises in respiration and ethylene production of the harvested guava fruits of cv. ”Li Zai Ba” were accompanied by the changes of fruit color. Exogenous ethylene treatment of this cultivar resulted in accelerated ripening and climacteric respiration. Propylene treatment enhanced autocatalytic ethylene production. Unlike cv. ”Li Zai Ba”, the cv. ”Tai Guo Ba” guava fruits showed neither climacteric respiration nor significant increase in ethylene production. Autocatalytic ethylene production of this cultivar was not noted after propylene treatment although the respiration and softening were stimulated by ethylene or propylene. Thus, it was concluded that cv. ”Li Zi Ba” behaved like climacteric fruits, whereas, cv. ”Tai Guo Ba” like non-climacteric fruits. |
