The purpose of this study was to understand residents' opinions of Taichung area on the street tree attributes and their preference structure. This study focused on the preference structure for both the 'street tree beside the street' and 'street tree on the medians'. The two-stage research process was conducted in this study. First, we constructed the factor structure of the street tree attributes by using factor analysis. Second, we applied the conjoint analysis approach to obtain the optimization of the resident-based street tree attributes. Based on the f in ding s, four major conclusions were drawn as follows: 1.By performing factor analysis, four factors of the street tree attributes were extracted. They were 'influencing safety', 'environmental sanitation', 'increasing beauty', and 'improving the environment'. 2.The results indicated that there was a significant difference on the opinion of 'improving the environment' between residents with and without street trees in front of their houses. 3.Residents' socioeconomic characteristics did not have significant influences on the factor structure of street tree attributes and the total satisfaction level. 4.The determinant attribute for the 'street tree beside the street' was 'increasing beauty', and the determinant attribute for the 'street tree on the medians' was 'influencing safety'. |
