We conducted a citation analysis to study the knowledge spectrum of Regional Studies, a field defined by National Science Council, to measure the impact and quality of the journals in this field, and to identify the grouping of these journals and therefore the relationships of the subfields. Starting from 105 seeding journals recommended by scholars in this field, we proceeded to obtain the seeding reference articles from which we then extracted a total 336, 072 records of citations from the web of SSCI during 1990-1999. This data base allows us to compute the impact (total citations) and efficiency (average citations per article) of each journal. Sixty top journals for the eight subfields in Regional Studies are selected for co-citation and multidimensional scaling analyses. We hope our results and findings are useful for researchers in Taiwan to see the status of their interested journals or the development of their research areas in the international academic community. |
