As the pioneer of 3F mystery writer in Japan, Kirino Natsuo tends to apply realistic way of writing to depict women's desire and the darkness buried deeply in their minds. Therefore, she also has been a renowned feminist writer. Kirino has long prided herself on exploring the anger roared by characters teetering on the edge of the abyss. While fighting against the established social order to make a breakthrough, her characters usually bring the reader into an unimaginable world. OUT is one of the most representative works of such motif. In this paper I will investigate how the hard-boiled women depicted in OUT use violence as the very weapon of fighting for survival, freedom and desires as well as how the female protagonist reestablishes her own identity when the power paradigm of gender has been twisted by violence exercised by women. |
