The content of JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) Vocabulary List includes Basic Level Vocabularies and Advance Level Vocabularies. The Vocabulary List is part of the JLPT Test Content Specification. It is the result of 2005 Test Content Specification R&D project conducted by Japan Educational Exchanges and Services. The background and condition of the Vocabulary Lists will be described in the research report. Furthermore, the collection and evaluation of vocabularies in the Vocabulary Lists are conducted. The comparison between JLPT Vocabulary Lists and other published vocabulary lists is also completed. A detailed description of characteristic and significance of these efforts will be presented in the report. The key features of vocabulary are identified via a through study and comparison of two reports, The National Institute for Japanese Language Report 117 – “Study of Vocabulary List of Basic Japanese Vocabulary” (教育基本語彙の基本的研究 ) published by Meiji Shoin (明治書院 ) in 2001, and Report 78 – “A Study of Fundamental Vocabulary for Japanese Language Teaching” (国立国語研究所報告78 日本語教育のための基本語彙調查) published by Shuei Shuppan (秀英出版 ) in 1984. Report 117 is the basic vocabulary list designed for Japanese education, and Report 78 is the basic vocabulary list for foreigners learning Japanese as second language. After thorough study and explicit comparison, the results show that The JLPT Vocabulary List has 88% and 82% similarity with Report 117 and 78 Vocabulary Lists. The characteristic of “basic vocabulary” can be easily found in JLPT Vocabulary Lists. Although there are still lots of issues yet to be discussed and examined in JLPT Vocabulary Lists, it has shown its significance on the study of Japanese learning and instruction in Taiwan. |
