After the Meiji Reformation, besides Chinese culture and scholarship, Japan begins to absorb modern Western European culture and knowledge. Great changes have taken place in Japanese academic circles, and one of the major items is the publication of the history of Chinese literature in the late ninetieth of the nineteenth century. As a result, even in China, the history of Chinese literature appears. We can say that the history of literature is a combination of Sinology and Western European ideas. At first, most of the Japanese writers are young scholars. They not only imbibe new ideas and knowledge, but also build up a new framework of Sinology. But their contributions are underestimated. They should get proper appraise and evaluation. And this is the aim of this paper. |
