In modern Japanese literature, Haruki Murakami is a writer who is sensitive to gender issues. From Norwegian Wood (1987) to Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage (2013), Murakami presents the issues of sexual minorities in his works with themes across different times. This thesis re-explores the problem of “sexual minority” in Murakami’s works from the perspective of sexual gender consciousness based on Sputnik Sweetheart (1999). The results show that: 1. Women's homosexual lust is not born natural but acquired variation, which shows the deconstruction and flipping of sexual majority/minority identity, and the boundary of the dichotomous framework in gender identity. 2. The construction of lust involves the interaction of multiple factors of physical gender and gender. 3. The failure of sexual love between Sumire and Miu, besides the demonstration of differences between their cognition towards sex, it further raises doubts regarding the combination of self and other, reflecting the most fundamental problems in interpersonal relationship. |
