Problems of identity have played an important role in Taiwanese literature, including nostalgia of China, the second generation of mainlanders, Taiwanese consciousness, and aboriginal writing. In the age of globalization, this phenomenon becomes more complex. After the declaration of martial law, the non-official interaction between Taiwan and China started. In the process of interaction, Chinese women were usually called some stigmatic names: mainland bride and mainland girl. Meanwhile, new inhabitants and foreign workers became the 5th biggest ethnic group. These two groups often have no voice in Taiwan society. This paper aims to discuss two texts in Sinophone Studies: Quasi-Taipei People, and Under the Eave. How do authors' identities and migrant experiences influenced the writing strategies of them? I am going to develop Sinophone Taiwanese Literature from these two questions. |
