Numbers of reports according to studies with cell lines, animal models and clinical trials in humans showed that anthocyanins have anti-diabetic properties. However, there are so many anthocyanins with different structure existing in nature, make it difficult to determine their effects on type 2 diabetes. Published data suggest that anthocyanins may lower blood glucose by improving insulin resistance, protecting ß cell , increasing secretion of insulin and reducing digestion of sugars in the small intestine. As anthocyanins are abound in nature and the main structure of anthocyanins are the same can be supplement by diet, in line with the current mainstream of use food as a supplemental for health. In this paper, the structure of anthocyanins, and the existing reports to be collated to explore its possible prevention of the feasibility of type 2 diabetes, as a reference for the diet. |
