In his 1985 novel, White Dog and the Swing, author Mo Yan first introduced his hometown of Northeast Gaomi Township. Thereafter, almost all of his works revolved around his hometown. In 2003, White Dog and the Swing was adapted into film with Huo Jianqi as director, and the film took on the same plot of the "guilt" and "repentance" of a scholar in returning home, which permeated the entire novel. Mo Yan’s novel possesses larger than life cinema vision, therefore by means of reading a film, this study takes from the original novel only the parts that possess a cinematic sense to perform its analysis and discussion. |
