The research refers an issue regarding Internet share culture, artists’ opportunities offered by the culture, and its impacts to the music industry. While the copyright policies stressed on secondary infringements to the online service providers, artists in the Internet sharing platforms also suffered infringement hazards. It is because most artists’ works uploaded to the Internet sharing platforms are derivative works and are unauthorized. Accordingly, although many copyright regulations provided “safe harbor” mechanisms to the online service providers, after Viacom and RapidShare lawsuits many providers adopted “precautionary measures” to its service contents. The providers’ attitude changes negatively affected many artists’ promulgations and publications of the works.
