Ji(吉), Shuo Wen Jie Zi interpreted as "good". On the basis of Yu Xingwu and Zhu Fangpu, Mr. Qiu Xigui pointed out "Ji" word "is adding a distinctive signifier '口 (mouth)' to the pictograph of a hook weapon which has the feature of solid texture, '吉 (Ji)' word is created to indicate the meaning of solid...... thus the original meaning of 'Ji' is solid." This paper argues that "Ji" word should be interpreted as "adding a distinctive signifier '口(mouth)' to the pictograph of an axe weapon which has the feature of solid texture, '吉(Ji)' word is created to indicate the meaning of solid." Meanwhile, in addition to the examples cited by Mr. Qiu, this paper added other examples such as: "Ji bow" in Huayuan Village's oracle, "Ji will", "Ji good" in Yin Zhi of Tsinghua I ,"Ji word" in Yin Gao of Tsinghua I. |
