Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) has been the mainstream of the treatment for various diseases in Taiwan until the western medicine system was introduced to this area. However, there was no official permission to let those clinical practitioners to be qualified to acquire any licenses before 1901 let alone the regulations about professional TCM education. Clinical TCM practicing had also switched from ordinary civilian jobs to a profession in 1901 thus one had to pass the official licensing examination to be a clinical TCM physician. The practicing was regulated by medical laws and had therefore developed professionally. The socio-cultural status of those practitioners was lifted obviously as well under the protection of the associated medical laws. |
