In 2007, 5,798 Syphilis cases were confirmed (incidence rate = 25.30 / 105), which decreased from the 5,808 confirmed cases (incidence rate = 25.45 / 105) in 2006. The characteristics of confirmed Syphilis cases were as follows: The sex ratio was 2.4 (2.4:1.0), with 4,074 male cases (70.3%) and 1,724 female cases (29.7%). Among them, the number of cases aged 25-49 were highest (n = 2,955, 51.0%), followed by aged 50-69 (n = 1,395, 24.1%), older than 70 (n = 890, 15.4%), aged 4-24 (n = 523, 9.0%), and aged 0-1 (n = 35, 0.5%). Cases occurred year-round with a wide geographical distribution. The number of cases residency was highest in Taipei County (n = 1,192, 20.6%), followed by Taipei City (n = 893, 15.4%), Taoyuan County (n = 529, 9.1% ), Taichung City (n = 391, 6.7%), Kaohsiung City (n = 367, 6.3%) and Kaohsiung County (n = 320, 5.5%). No confirmed case in Lienchiang County. |
