In 2006, 25 Severe Complicated Influenza Case were confirmed (incidence rate= 0.11 / 105 ) which was about a quarter less than the 33 confirmed cases (incidence rate = 0.15 / 105) in 2005. The characteristics of confirmed Severe Complicated Influenza Case are as follows: The sex ratio was 1.8 (1.8:1.0), with 16 male cases (64%) and 9 female cases (36%). Among them, the number of cases aging 5-14 was highest (n = 10, 40%), following ages 15-24 (n = 4, 16%) and ages 1-4 and 40-64 (n = 3, 12%, respectively). Most of the cases occurred during the winter, especially in December (n = 11, 44%). The geographical distribution was centered in Northern Taiwan, especially in Taipei City (n = 7, 28%), Taipei county (n = 6, 24%) and Taoyuan County (n = 5, 20%). The incidence rate in each jurisdiction was highest in Taipei Metropolitan (0.27 / 105), followed by Taoyuan County (0.26 / 105) and Hsienchu City (0.25 / 105). None of the cases were imported. The serotypes were seven each for Influenza A and B (28.0%, respectively), and eleven were undetermined (44.0%). |
