In 2006, 139 Shigellosis cases were confirmed (incidence rate = 0.61 / 105, 38 were imported cases) which was about 20% less than the 174 confirmed cases (incidence rate= 0.77 / 105, 39 were imported cases) in 2005. The characteristics of confirmed Shigellosis cases are as follows: The sex ratio was 1.0 (1.0:1.0), with 70 male cases (50.4%) and 69 female cases (49.6%). Among them, number of cases ages 40-64 were highest (n = 49, 35.2%), following ages 25-39 (n = 29, 20.9%), and those greater than 65 years old (n = 23, 16.5%). Cases occurred year-round, mostly during June and August. Geographical distribution was highest in Hwalien County (n = 74, 53.2%), following Taipei Metropolitan (n = 17, 12.2%), Taipei and Taichung county (n = 11, 7 .9%, respectively) and Taoyuan County (n = 10, 7.2%). The incidence rates in each jurisdiction was highest in Hwalien County (21.37 / 105), followed by Nantao County (0.75 / 105 ) and Taichung County (0.72 / 105). |
