In 2006, 154 Acute Hepatitis C cases were confirmed (incidence rate = 0.67 / 105), a quarter less than the 172 confirmed cases (incidence rate = 0.75 / 105) in 2005. The characteristics of confirmed Acute Hepatitis C cases are as follows: The sex ratio was 2.8 (2.8:1.0), with 114 male cases (74%) and 40 female cases (26%). Among them, incidence was highest for individuals of age 40-64 were highest (n =58, 37.7%), following those of age 25-39 (n =55, 35.7%), and greater than 65 years old (n = 26, 16.9%). Cases occurred year-round with widespread geographical distribution. Most cases were in Taipei City and Taichung County (n = 18, 11. 7%, respectively), followed by Kaoshiung City (n =17, 11%), Taipei County (n = 14, 9.1%), Taoyuan County (n = 13, 8.4%). There were no confirmed cases reported in the satellite islands, Ponghu County, Kinman County and Lianjiang County. Furthermore, there were no reported confirmed cases in the remaining jurisdictions. The incidence rate was highest in Keelung City (2.05 / 105), followed by Hwalien County (1.44 / 105) and Taichung County (1.17 / 105).
