In 2006, 14 Pertussis cases were confirmed (incidence rate = 0.06 / 105), a one third decrease from the 38 confirmed cases (incidence rate = 0.17 / 105) in 2005. The characteristics of confirmed Pertussis cases are as follows: The sex ratio is 0.4 (1.0:2.5), with 4 male cases (28.6%) and 10 female cases (71.4%). Among these cases, incidence was highest for one-year-old individuals (n =12, 85.7%), followed by 1-4 year olds individuals (n =1, 7.1%) and 5-9 year olds (n =1, 7.1%). Cases occurred year-round with widespread geographical distribution. In Northern Taiwan, incidence was highest in Taipei county (n =4, 28.62%), followed by Taipei Metropolitan (n =3, 21.4%) and Taoyuan County (n =3, 21.4%). Followed by Kaoshiung City, Yilan County, Changhwa County and Taitung County had 1 (7.1 %) confirmed cases for each jurisdiction. The incidence rates were highest in Taitung County (0.42 / 105), followed by Yilan County (0.22 / 105) and Taoyuan County (0.16 / 105). None of the confirmed cases met the criteria of imported cases. |
