Being like a mirror, folk songs have evolved to reflect the characteristics, historical features as well as traditional and native specification. As the predominant ethic group of Taiwan, Holo-speaking people constitute the largest percentage of the population in Taiwan. Each g e n e r a t i o n has passed down abundant native folk songs which depict the features of their respective ages. Represent Taiwan’s historical path, customs, changes, political and economic circumstances, as well as cultural phenomena, these Holo native folk songs can be adopted as proper teaching materials in music, cultural, literary, native-language, and art education. This paper will elucidate with examples the significance and value of Holo native folk songs to art and cultural education. It is also hoped that the study will serve as useful references to educators in the relevant areas of education. |
