Asthma is one of the common allergic diseases in Taiwan. According to the investigation conducted by the Health Promotion Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2009, the children under the age of 12 diagnosed with asthma are 6.7% in population. At the proportion of this rate, there are more than 192,000 children under the age of 12 suffering from asthma. Among these children, there are 76,000 people under the age of 6 (the prevalence rate is 5.6%), and 115,000 people are between 7 to 11 years old (the prevalence rate is 8.0%). Besides, our country is located in subtropical area and the weather is very humid. The dust mites grow quickly and easily in such environment. Otherwise, the air pollution and particle matter (PM10/PM2.5) are sometimes exceeded the national standard. Because of these reasons, asthma in pediatrics recurs easily. How to reduce the recurrent rate of the asthma attack, decreasing the cost of emergent medical treatment, improving the allergic symptom, and accommodating the immune reaction are important issues. In this article, we collect and integrate the related papers and clinical experience of famous physician Dr. Yu-Min Shi of Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Children's Hospital of Fu-Dan University. Hoping this review paper can provide clinical references for Chinese medicine doctors in treating asthma patients. |
