The school years are the most important period in a person's life for establishing healthy behavior. The health status of a teenager or young adult will be determined by the lifestyle they select during their school years. Therefore, providing a healthy environment through health-promoting schools has become the most effective way to reach the goal of Health for All. The Bureau of Health Promotion in Taiwan has commissioned local governments to implement programs in various counties. Through a bottom-up approach, staff and students of schools take responsibility for improving their own health and determining their own health issues to solve. Further, learning environments are automatically created and participants are empowered through various discussion and interaction processes. Participants therefore can take advantage of school resources in these healthpromoting schools to practice healthy behaviors. The health-promoting school programs finally aim to enhance participants' behaviors in “easier and healthier living”. |
